Slavery's Journey to America-Beaver County's Underground Railroad Involvement
The Underground Railroad is a term used from the 1840’s to describe an informal network of secret routes and safe houses used by fugitive slaves in the USA on their journey north to “Free States” or Canada using the North Star as their guide.
Odette Lambert is a retired educator and former president of the New Brighton Historical Society, has a passion for history and spent more than quarter of a century researching the role New Brighton in Beaver County played in helping runaway slaves escape from Southern states and seek freedom in Canada. Carol Fedelis, Odette’s daughter, continues her mothers work to share this fascinating history.
We are hosting Carol’s presentation, “Slavery’s Journey to America: Beaver county’s Underground Railroad Involvement” on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Findlay Township Activity Center located at 310 Main Street in Imperial, PA starting at 6:30 p.m.
Our program is a prelude to New Brighton’s Historical Society’s biennial guide/docent walking tour on September 27, 2025, which is free to the public and approximately 2.5 hours.
